American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
A good farrier takes the time to find out how a horse is used from day to day before working on the animal. There’s a huge difference in the horseshoeing approach for a farrier working on a horse that provides riding lessons compared to one that needs to run and jump for competitions. As you know, different areas of the feet get more use when the horse is walking, cantering, trotting, galloping or jumping.
In an attempt to explain the anatomy behind a horse’s movements, authors Sarah Pilliner, Samantha Elmhurst and Zoe Davies have put together the informative, 206-page book, The Horse In Motion.
Studying, researching and being around horses for the majority of their lives, the book’s authors have a solid understanding of the active horse.
A former lecturer in nutrition and exercise physiology, Pilliner recently put her concentration into writing useful, practical books for anyone involved with horses. She has authored Horse Nutrition and Feeding and Practical Feeding of Horses and Ponies while co-authoring Horse and Stable Management; Getting Horses Fit; and Equine Science, Health and Performance.
Elmhurst is a freelance illustrator who has contributed to equine magazines and veterinary publications. Davies has spent considerable time as an equine nutritionist and external examiner in numerous courses.
