A proposed expansion project by Farrier Product Distribution (FPD) took an important step forward Tuesday night in Shelbyville, Ky.
The Triple S Planning Commission approved FPD’s plans to build a 7,600-square-foot warehouse at its 362 Haven Hill Road location, FPD President Dan Burke told American Farriers Journal.
“We’re glad there was no problem with the process,” Burke says. “The commission’s decision is the final OK we need to go forward, so we’ll be starting very soon.”
The expansion project, which will begin in early October, will help accommodate the continued growth of FPD. While expansion has been in the cards for some time, it’s exclusive distribution deal with Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory for Diamond farrier products has hastened the need.
“The Diamond line is not nearly as extensive as Kerckhaert, but with the additional inventory and order processing activity, we knew an expansion couldn’t wait,” Burke says. “We planned on this 7,600-square-foot expansion coming at some point. So, it was just a matter of getting the contractor moving on it.”
When construction begins this fall, it will mark the fifth time FPD has expanded.
“Our first building project was in 1999 when we built 9,600 square feet on this property,” Burke recalls. “We thought that was quite a bit of space. The expansion we are beginning now will move us to just over 42,000 square feet. We are fortunate to have a property where we could expand the facility as needed.”
Construction is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
