Longtime Louisiana farrier Rayford “Sonny” Dugas passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at his residence in Carencro, La. He was 77.
Dugas was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton. He was employed as a pipe yard foreman for different oilfield companies, retired with the Lafayette Parish School Board in the maintenance department and was a local farrier and racehorse trainer in the community for the past 50 years. He was a parishioner of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.
A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Melancon Funeral Home and Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro.
Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8 a.m. until the funeral service, which will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro.
