Castle Hayne, N.C., farrier Wayne Dixon passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington. He was 69.
Dixon proudly served in the United States Air Force, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. In his youth, he also fostered a life-long love and deep understanding of horses while growing up and working on his grandfather’s horse and dairy farm in Wilmington. This inspired Dixon to become a farrier, graduating from Oklahoma Farrier College, and proceeding to work with horses and horse owners all over southeastern North Carolina for nearly 25 years.
A celebration of Dixon’s life will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, Wilmington, N.C. Visitation with family and friends will be one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dixon’s memory should be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
Online condolences to the family may be expressed at Andrews Mortuary.
