When a farrier starts opening up a shoeing rig at a clinic, a curious thing occurs. The stories that are being swapped among the small pockets of congregants in the parking lot begin to lose their allure, and an easygoing migration begins.

Like moths to a flame, farriers can’t resist checking out someone else’s shoeing rig. They amble on over, greet the farrier who graciously offers the welcome distraction and casually explore the mobile office.

More than likely, it’s a tour they’ve taken before, but you never know what might have changed since the last time you saw it. There might be a new clip­ping hammer, toolbox or forge. You might notice something that you somehow missed before. Or a little something might have been added. Whether they are big or small, ideas for improving a rig are always appreciated.

Do-It-Yourself

No matter the size of a farrier’s rig, carrying a broom can be awkward. Installing a pair of broom handle wall mounts on your ceiling is one way of maximizing space that otherwise wouldn’t be utilized.

While you’re in the aisle picking up wall mounts, pick up two more and fasten them to your wall. Some shoeing box carts slide nicely into the mounts and keep them from rolling around. It could save you time from picking up all of the nails that would be scattered about your rig if the box tips over.
