Gilroy, Calif., farrier Leland Hayes Shirley passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017. He was 43.
The Montana native joined the Navy in 1994, serving 2 years on the USS O’Bannon. After his discharge, he took up horseshoeing, and moved to California. He became a proficient farrier, building a large and loyal clientele, in the San Juan Bautista area, continuing this profession up to the time of his death.
An artist with his hands, he built beautiful knives and was a skilled woodworker.
A family memorial will take place this July.
