American Farriers Journal editor Frank Lessiter recently enjoyed a conversation with with Hall of Fame horseshoer Ken Mankel.
Mankel, a veteran farrier out of Grand Rapids Michigan, got started working with horses when he was 12 years old.
In 1954, Ken Mankel answered an ad searching for someone with experience with horses and mules. This decision lead him out west to Colorado and changed his life for the better.
In this podcast, brought to you by SmartPak, Mankel discusses his introduction to farriery, his experiences with the U.S. Army mule outfit and his innovative work in developing a propane forge.
