AFA Rocks In Reno
The American Farrier’s Association (AFA) held its 47th annual convention, “Rocking In Reno,” in Reno, Nev., the “Biggest Little City In The World.”
Farriers belong to an industry with a healthy contribution to the United States economy.
The entire equine industry generates about $122 billion in total economic impact, according to the American Horse Council (AHC) Foundation’s 2017 Economic Impact Study of the U.S. Horse Industry, which was released in late February. It’s responsible for 1.74 million jobs and $79 billion in total salaries, wages and benefits.
A simple strikethrough of Section 6(8) in the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) proposed Model Veterinary Practice Act (MVPA) has raised a multitude of questions in the farrier industry.
Discussion concerning proposed changes to the Model Veterinary Practice Act continues to grow. Both the American Farrier’s Association and American Association of Professional Farriers issued statements Friday regarding their knowledge of and stance on the proposed elimination of the farrier exemption.
The American Farrier’s Association Annual Convention, held in early March in Arlington, Texas, was one of the most successful in recent memory with 609 attendees, says outgoing AFA President Jon Johnson.
“It might be our best convention in 10 years,” he says.
Each year, six American farriers are selected to represent their country in forging competitions around the world. The 2016 team will have an element that it never has had before.
