Farriers at Work: Marijke Ellert

The horses that Placerville, Calif., farrier Marijke Ellert tend to range from rider therapy horses to high-level dressage horses. However, it’s the therapeutic aspect of farriery that she enjoys most. “I love working with vets and coming up with out-of-the-box ideas and applying them to a horse whose future doesn’t look bright, and turning it around. That’s the most rewarding part of this job. I love being able to make a difference in that horse’s life.”
