2024 International Hoof-Care Summit

The 21st annual International Hoof-Care Summit drew crowds from 13 countries and 40 states to Cincinnati, Ohio, for 4 days of education and networking, along with product and supply information from the world’s largest hoof-care tradeshow. Over 1,000 Summit attendees had the chance to hear from 27 featured speakers, participate in 48 roundtable discussions and visit 105 tradeshow exhibitors.

The 22nd annual International Hoof-Care Summit will be January 21-24, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. The new Kansas City location is necessary due to its previous site, Cincinnati’s Duke Energy Center, closing while undergoing a 2-year renovation project beginning July 2024.

Shoeing for a Living: Martin Roche

In this gallery, Blanchardville, Wis., farrier Martin Roche works on the front right foot of a 4-year-old Quarter Horse named Riley, that was brought into Lodi Veterinary Care in early April for a shoeing. This was Roche’s first appointment with Riley, who will soon begin work at a jumper. Roche is featured in the December 2020 American Farriers Journal “Shoeing for a Living.”

American Farriers Team Practice

Members of the 2020 American Farriers Team (AFT) gathered in Paragould, Ark., in September to practice for the competition season. The AFT represents the American Farrier’s Association at national and international competitions, but also acts as horseshoeing industry and AFA ambassadors, sharing their knowledge as clinicians and promoting the professional development of farriers.

Shoeing During a Pandemic: MVP’s Farrier Service

Illinois farriers Heather Beauchemin, CJF, (TE) and Vern Powell, CJF (TE), of MVP’s Farrier Service provide the final installment of American Farriers Journal’s 3-part “Shoeing During a Pandemic Series” about how farriers managed their business during the onset of COVID-19. The duo spends their day shoeing a variety of horses and the evening forging with other local farriers from the Marengo, Ill.-area during an MVP’s Farrier Service shop night.

World Championship Blacksmiths, Madison, Wis., 2020

The World Championship Blacksmiths hosted phase two of its 2020 season July 31-Aug. 2 in Fitchburg, Wis. Seventy-two competitors from 28 states participated.

Visiting Cliff Carroll's Horseshoers Supply

Cliff Carroll, a Larkspur, Colo., farrier, tool manufacturer and supply shop owner, sold the manufacturing arm of Cliff Carroll’s Horseshoers Supply to Amarillo, Texas-based Well-Shod. American Farriers Journal had an opportunity to visit Carroll’s shop and get a behind the scenes look at his operations.

With a theme of “Focus on Hoof Care for a Healthier Horse," the Summit demonstrated why it’s truly international with attendees and exhibitors representing 21 countries.

The Midwest Equine Podiatry Conference, November 2019

The Midwest Equine Podiatry Conference was presented by Lodi Veterinary Care Equine and Country View Equine Clinic in November 2019. Featured guests were Raul Bras, certified journeyman farrier and veterinarian with Rood and Riddle in Lexington, Ky. and farrier Dave Gilliam of Equine Soundness Professionals in Flower Mound, Texas. In addition to informative presentations, Bras and Gilliam led the hoof-care demonstration at the event.

Sedalia, Colo., farrier Jason Critton and his C-Cross Farriers team advocate for the horse and each other, resulting in a successful multi-farrier practice.
