Despite the advancements in today’s adhesives, acrylics and other types of materials that can be used to build up and repair damaged feet, there are still a wide variety of other options out there that can help fill a farrier’s specific needs.
“Glue-on applications such as cuffs may be a bit more expensive, more time-consuming to apply and may take a little more technical expertise to apply, but it’s still the most secure way to put on a glue-on shoe,” says Joe Trhlik, the former Chicago-area racetrack farrier who recently moved to Rio Verde, Ariz., “I’m an absolute fan of them.”
The following takes an up-close look at some of the most tried-and-true glue-on products that are currently on the market.
The Sigafoos Series horseshoes, from Sound Horse Technologies in Unionville, Pa., are glue-on horseshoes that have over 10 years of proven success in getting sore-footed horses back to work fast. These shoes incorporate a 1/4-inch thick, concaved rim pad to reduce concussive shock effects on the hoof and lower leg.
